The short answer

Start with the complete system and the evidence

The first visible symptom does not always identify the actual failure. Sandison documents operating condition, connected components, safety concerns, access, and the evidence needed to choose a defensible next step.

Cleaning method selection

Hydro-jetting is useful when the pipe and obstruction support it

High-pressure water can remove grease, sludge, soft scale, and accumulated material that a small cable may only punch through. It is not automatically appropriate for every blockage or every pipe. Sandison first considers access, pipe material, diameter, visible defects, branch connections, prior repairs, fixture protection, discharge path, and camera evidence. When jetting fits, the equipment and nozzle strategy are coordinated around the documented condition rather than sold as a universal drain treatment.

Commercial drain evidence

Recurring restaurant and facility backups require a cause-and-maintenance decision

Food-service and commercial drains can accumulate grease, organic material, scale, and debris across long horizontal runs. A successful cleaning should be followed by camera review where access permits, because restored flow does not prove that the pipe is structurally sound or correctly connected. Sandison documents remaining defects, cross-connection concerns, maintenance intervals, access limitations, and any section that requires milling, repair, excavation, or a different specialty process.
